There is no way I could relate to you all of the wierd, upsetting, screwed up or just plain bizarre dreams I have had that were related to bellydance. In my dreams I have: lost my skirt ( classic), had my dance teacher tell me that I suck, had horrible music come on that was undancible (sp?),looked down and saw that my skirt was covered in baby food ( after the birth of my second daughter), and many many more.
But the most interesting one I will share. Don't worry, this has a point.I realize that other people's dream recounts can be very boring.
When I decided to pick a dance name I immediately thought ,"Kali" ( or a form of Kali). I am pagan, and dedicated to the Goddess Kali, who happens to be a wild, chaotic, death and destruction kind of Goddess. I tossed around the idea and decided to sleep on it.
Immediately that night I started to dream. I was on a huge stage, and as I stepped out onto the stage I looked like a better version of myself.I was thin, wearing beautiful red bedlah, and perfectly coiffed, but as I started to dance things started to change. Lights fell down from the rafters missing me by an inch. The wood on the stage started to splinter, People in the audience got up and started dancing themselves, some ripping my clothes off. The scene became total chaos. I couldn't stop dancing, and as you might have guessed, as I looked down, I was Kali. Disheveled hair, body parts hanging from my belt, wearing skins.
When I woke up I was shaking. I remembered Kali's story. Kali was a dancer! I had forgotten that. Quick recap: when the Gods and Goddess were in a war with demons, the demons were winning. The warrior Goddess Durga in frustration at their losses furrowed Her brow, and out came Kali like a bat outta hell. She started dancing on the corpses, and drinking the demons blood. No one could stop her from dancing. She was in a frenzy. Her husband Shiva made the sound of a baby's cry, and she finally stopped.
Geez. Good choice for a name jerkwad.
Anyway the point is that if you are newish and picking a name, think about it a bit. Think about a name that emcompasses who you are and who you want to be.
and don't pick a name like Kali. ( with all due respect to Her)
