Dance Cocktails

Don't lie. Every dancer I know, eats, drinks, or does some kind of mental ju-ju rain dance before they set foot on stage. I have seen dancers of 15 years, gulp Xanax before performances, and dancers of 30 years do shots of tequila.

Here is the recipe for my favorite dance cocktail....

Two hours before dancing drink strong strong coffee ( think espresso), or chug half a can of red bull. This should give you energy, and make you kinda spastic. The B vitamins will make you feel amazing, and you should have enough energy to practice and really warm up. ( it also makes you poop. Well, it does...)
Drink two glasses of water before arriving at dance event. Pee. Order a glass of wine. Drink it. Dance. At this point you should still have energy from the red bull/coffee,but be mellow and ,"I don't give a shit" enough to do some really good dancing. You can thank the wine for that. Any more than two glasses of something, and you get into the danger zone, tho.

Word of caution, don't get drunk and dance on a stage. I have seen it, and it ain't pretty.

I find this very curious. I think I may have to try this intriguing plan - probably at a hafla first in case it makes me crazy.
I second the don't drink and dance thing. It doesn't take much to make to we wobble. I did do a Bedouin number once and we had to be in "character" and some of the dancing got stage fright and needed to loosen up to act the part so we all had a drink right before going on stage.

Ain't nuthin wrong with a drink right before going on....:) But I have seen dancers slurring, then getting on stage. CRAZY.
Let me know how it goes if you try the ,"Naaga Cocktail". :)

I myself have popped one to many xanax prior to dancing in public and the blank look on my face was priceless. Stop at one people.

sooo interesting! thankfuly I don't really need anything to not care what other people are thinking as a boogie (and make a fool of myself!) on the dance floor ;)

Shannon, That is a good thing! Not many people are that comfortable. :)

Hehe! Loved this! This is my pre-performance formula to a tee!

Why would you need to get so spooked over a little belly dance? Its rarely done in a high stakes situation -really, if you take it so seriously, you shouldn't be afraid any more. Take a breath, and save the xanax for the royal ballet!

Well goldengoddess, I'll take my xanax thank you very much and mazel tav to you for mastering the art of non-stage fright...you know, even the greats such as Barbara Streisand, and Celine Dion admit to stage fright...I often wonder about those who don't...

A little stage fright is healthy- the adrenalin gives you that extra edge. And no matter how many times i have performed, I still get butterflies in my tummy. I doubt a day will ever come when I dont. I think if you care enough about something, you will always be a little nervous beforehand. No need to be so condescending goldengoddess
